2026 Leadership Goals: The Year We Lead on Purpose

There is something magical about a new year.
A clean slate. A fresh calendar. A brief moment where everything feels possible again.
It is also the season of ambitious resolutions that quietly fade by mid February. Usually right around the time someone brings donuts to the office, an unexpected issue lands on your desk, or budget season reminds you that leadership is rarely calm or convenient.
But what if this year we stopped making resolutions that simply sound good, and instead made leadership commitments that actually change something?
Not the flashy kind. Not the performative kind. The kind that show up in how you make decisions, how you treat people, and how your team experiences you when things get uncomfortable.
That is the opportunity 2026 is offering.
And it starts with slowing down long enough to be honest.
Reflection, Release, and Refinement
Leadership is not just about managing work. It is about managing yourself.
Your reactions. Your patterns. Your default responses when you are tired, stretched thin, or under pressure.
Reflection is how you interrupt autopilot. It is how you notice when you are holding onto too much because it feels faster, avoiding a conversation you know you should have, or reacting to urgency instead of leading with intention.
This is also where release begins.
Releasing outdated leadership habits is uncomfortable, but necessary. Maybe it is the hero mindset that says everything falls apart without you. Maybe it is the belief that rocking the boat is more dangerous than staying silent. Maybe it is tolerating energy draining dynamics because addressing them feels hard.
Releasing does not mean caring less. It means making space for leadership that is healthier, clearer, and more sustainable.
Refinement comes next.
Refinement is not about becoming a different leader. It is about becoming more intentional as the leader you already are.
It looks like carving out time to think instead of only react. Listening to understand instead of listening to respond. Delegating in ways that grow others instead of keeping everything close to your chest. Building habits that support your wellbeing and effectiveness instead of running yourself into the ground.
Growth does not require massive change. It requires consistency.
That is where small, intentional improvements start to matter.
Recommitment and Leadership That Actually Matters
As you step into 2026, this is the moment to recommit to the things that anchor your leadership.
Integrity, especially when it is inconvenient. Psychological safety, so people feel safe telling the truth before things break. Inclusivity that goes beyond buzzwords and shows up in who is heard and trusted. And purpose, the reason you chose this work in the first place.
Strong leadership is not about being perfect. It is about being aware, aligned, and willing to grow.
That is why this year, I am inviting leaders into something different.
The 1% Better Leadership Challenge
This year, I am inviting leaders into something simple and intentional.
Starting next week, I am launching the 1% Better Leadership Challenge.
Every Tuesday throughout 2026, I will share one small, practical leadership action that can be implemented right away. Each tip will be shared on my TikTok and included in my Tuesday newsletter, so the ideas are always accessible.
The challenge itself is less about consuming content and more about making a quiet commitment.
A commitment to try one small shift.
A commitment to reflect more than react.
A commitment to lead with a little more intention than the week before.
There is nothing to keep up with and no expectation to do this perfectly. Some weeks you may fully lean in. Other weeks you may simply notice something new. Both matter.
Those who choose to formally join the challenge will occasionally receive additional resources throughout the year, such as reflection tools, invitations to learning sessions, or opportunities to connect with other leaders walking the same path.
If you prefer to follow along through the newsletter alone, that is always an option. If you want to take a more active role and be part of the shared experience and 1% better community, the challenge offers a space for that too.
Ways to engage in the challenge:
A Fresh Start That Actually Lasts
2026 is yours to shape.
You get to decide what you carry forward and what you finally release. You get to choose how intentional you want to be as a leader. And you get to show up in a way that feels aligned, grounded, and sustainable.
Your team deserves a leader who is willing to grow. Your organization benefits when leadership is clear and consistent. And you deserve a year that feels purposeful instead of exhausting.
If you are ready to lead with intention and grow alongside a community of leaders committed to doing the same, I would love for you to join the 1% Better Challenge. My vision for this challenge is a to build community amongst exceptional leaders.
Let’s make 2026 the year leadership stops feeling heavy and starts feeling intentional.

Great idea, Kristin. I love that you encourage others to think about who they are and the impact they have--intentionally or not. 1% better is far more realistic that a slew of resolutions.
